Additional Notes

A clipping of the church

“Attributed to Robert Strong Woodward, canvas church portrait believed to be a church located in Westhampton, Mass. The white colonial style large steeple rests on a small hillside with stone wall and summer landscape. Unsigned but having a type signed by his cousin Florence Wells Haeberle dated November 1979. Also a name tag “ Mrs. Elna Strong” on the stretcher. Housed in its original stained gray frame. PROVENANCE: Originally descended through the family.

CONDITION: Very good.

This painting was gifted by a local collector to the Plainfield Church where it is much admired

Church is actually known to be located in Plainfield, Mass. The painting is obviously unfinished in the foreground and is not signed by RSW. It was given to Mrs. Elna Strong sometime in the 1940’s. She was a personal nurse to the artist during those years.
