"1941. Wall and birch group, painted in October from just back of the Heath Pasture House, near the 'Mae West' window! This beautiful clump of white birch is now broken off by the 1943 ice storm which ruined so much of my Heath."
Reference to the "Mae West" window refers to a previously made window painting Frost on the Window with the buxom- appearing oil lamp on the table in front of the window. Lamp was later dubbed "Mae West" by one of the artist's friends. The window is actually in the rear of the cabin looking northwest.
The painting remains in the estate of the artist and is much loved and admired.
