"Painted in 1933. A painting made of a large woodland maple tree just off the main road (on a farm road) between Spruce Corner and Lithia. Soon after being painted it was bought by Mr. and Mrs. Aaron C. Bagg, 72 Fairfield Avenue, Holyoke, Mass. who owns several other of my paintings."
"Sold August 9, 1933 for $600.00 to Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Bagg, Holyoke, Mass."
We have been doing our best to find paintings that either match another painting we do not have an image of through
its name or assumed subject matter if we do not have a description. Here we have a description but not a suitable match.
When Woodward refers to a "woodland" we believe he is talking about a wooded interior. We could not find a matching
painting with the exception of October Gold, which is set on the edge of a dirt road, near a farm, surrounded
by woods. We think it is close enough, lol.
Thank goodness we have a description! Otherwise we would be
offering up a painting of the Franklin house painted in Out of New
England Soil because of how close the names are to each other.
