RSW's Diary Comments

• Woodward did not keep records of the pastels he called "chalk drawings."

⮜ Look and HOW MANY "theme" galleries this pastel is part of! Six theme galleries might be a record! We have several that make five galleries... the reason this is significant is the premise that the MORE galleries a painting appears, the MORE New England, specific to Woodward it is.

Additional Notes

A close up of the people in the drawing

Recently (2017) the website received an email from a fan who complained that there were NO people in our People & Livestock Gallery. Amused, we responded that you have to look for them... Many viewers miss it but RSW often added people in his work, often secondary to the focus of the scene, doing just ordinary everyday things.

This drawing is Heath (MA) Town Center. The church is The Heath Union Congregational Church. RSW drew this from South Road approximately where the basketball court is located today.

This drawing is privately owned and has recently returned "home" to the area after a number of years in Arizona. A special thank you to it's owner who kindly gave us access for these new pictures.
