CHECKLIST OF KNOWN WORKS BY
ROBERT STRONG WOODWARD

Note: this checklist is comprised of all known works of Robert Strong Woodward. All works are listed alphabetically by title and noted as to the medium when known. Many chalks were copied in oil and many oils were later copied and chalk, so there is some confusion with titles and media. There may be some duplication of the paintings do two different titles listed in newspaper articles and gallery records and even in the artist's own journal. Works were lost to the deterioration of pigments or fires at Redgate and his second studio and were later reproduced by the artist, so are noted. Some of the artist's early canvases were cut down in size because of the oils cracking on the edges, so the sizes noted, to our knowledge, are the original ones.

Individual ownership is not noted but is available, with permission from the owner, in the archives of the Deerfield Academy. Institutional ownership is listed and original gallery purchases are noted when known.

In the listing it is assumed that all paintings were signed "Robert Strong Woodward" unless noted. The last reference is to the exhibition record of the painting, noted "Ex.", And the numbers correspond to the alphabetical listing of exhibitions on page 46. If the painting was not exhibited to our knowledge no reference is made. Some paintings are known only by title because of exhibition references.
