...consider $750.00 it would mean a more fair compromise. Why, the last 20/30 of mine which I said in January, netted me $500.00 from Mr. Gardner's shop in Boston! That painting took about a week of my time; on the 40/50 in question, I worked just a month and a half, every day. Such results do not come easily. I think my offer is almost childishly low, and except for the fact that the painting may hang in such a worthy and honored place, I would regret it.
