Additional Notes

This scene held a particular importance to Woodward, so much so he painted numerous versions of the same painting. While in his diary comments for two of the paintings, he cites the 1936 painting, An October Pasture, as the source from which he made this painting and In an Autumn Pasture. However, we have found another likely painting of the same scene made in 1933 named From an Autumn Pasture making that painting the earliest although there is another unnamed painting of the same scene we nicknamed, Goodnow Pasture and its year is unknown. Sometimes we find these unnamed paintings are early versions that just didn't come out as Woodward hoped and he eventually gave them away as gifts, thus the lack of signatures.
