This is a crayon drawing found in one of RSW's sketch books. It is unsigned and unnamed. The church is on the same street as the RSW studio, located in Buckland Center, MA, and we do not know if there was an intended purpose for this drawing but we imagine that it was made around the same time as the cachet.
RSW had made a sketch (Sketch Book #19) which in turn was used for a
cachet honoring the Mary Lyon Church's 150th or sesquicentennial anni-versary.
We have only two
examples of Woodward using crayon as a medium. It is unknown what his intent was... a dabbling with some
kid's crayons, or an actually exploration.
