RSW's Diary Comments

"Painted prior to 1930. All said about the picture in my diary (Across the Valley) applies exactly to this one also; in the same way it is the property of John W. Haigis. A painting of a silo with scaffolding over at the Kendrick farm and back road from Ashfield to Conway (Archibald MacLeish road). Also, made a chalk drawing of the same subject."

Comments on the back of a sepia print:

"Very dramatic coloring. Clear sky in background, ranging from lemon yellow at horizon, through yellow-green to clear bright blue. Foreground is yellow-rose (wet fallen leaves) with patches of melting snow. Distant hills are violet, barn and silo violet-gray, highlights of sun on staging and trees. Bare trees lovely in muted colors.."

Additional Notes

This painting was also called In the November Sun in newspaper reproductions in 1927.
