Noteworthy:

Twenty unfinished chalks and oils, mostly chalks, were forgotten and discovered in a crate being stored in an attic. A number of the pieces were nothing more than a sketch and can be found in the Sketch Book Gallery.

RSW's Diary Comments

As unfinished, Woodward would not have written or commented in his artwork diary. All the works of art were framed for their preservation in 2017.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This drawing may have been part of the New England church series Woodward was commisioned by businessman and philanthropist Francis P. Garvan putting it around the mid-to-late 1930's.


The church still exist today and is located in the Deerfield Historic District on Main Street.



Additional Notes

This incomplete artwork was found in a forgotten shipping crate stored in an attic, as seen below, along with twenty other pieces. The crate is in excellant condition and is a wonderful example of how RSW shipped his paintings about the country to exhibit in various shows.
