RSW painting on the studio balcony
RSW painting on the studio balcony

This painting was painted from the rear balcony of the artist's studio. To the right, is a picture of RSW painting, what looks to be this painting, from the rear balcony.

This piece is reminiscent of In the Winter Hills, though not exact, it is from a similar vantage point looking down the valley towards Ashfield (in a different season).

This is a vista of a green pasture and distant mountains, an oil made by RSW from the balcony out back his Southwick Studio. It was left, for some reason, unsigned and unnamed. It is a view up the valley toward Ashfield, MA. Today many trees have grown up along the beautiful old stone wall leading from the left corner of the painting up the hillside. The stone wall is the actual property line of the farm fields of past and present landowners. In the days in which this oil was painted the cows in the pasture belonged to "old man" Gould, as he was called by us kids.
