Additional Notes

Back in the days of the depression RSW was in his buggy driving his horse Thomas a Kempis down North Street on his way to the village of Shelburne Falls. A sudden gust of wind blew his lap blanket off into the street. He was able to maneuver the buggy around so that one of the wheels was over the blanket holding it to the ground. A neighbor came along, retrieved the blanket, and handed it up to RSW in the buggy

A short time latter one of the RSW's assistants brought to this man's home a small oil painting signed in the right lower corner but apparently without a name. It was this painting of a white birch tree in the fall. The painting has remained in the family in Shelburne Falls ever since.
