As often happens a few pictures point the way. One must speak of the Wood Interior of Robert Strong Woodward of Shelburne Falls, Mass., both because the canvas received the first prize in painting, and because it richly deserved the honor. The subject is a deep wood in the late afternoon of a winters day, and has all the distinct emotional appeal of a poem or song, thrills with the sense of romantic charm and seems real by reason of its unrealness.
