The following is an evaluation of Through the Hills in May condition in 1968 by Alan Thielker. He notes there is some cracking and "two vandalistic punctures." "Through The Hills And May" in pencil as above"; on stretcher, upper R. A label, torn. Printed, "Artist No. Canvas in fair to good condition; paint well-attached, generally, except in several areas, top, of massive cracquelure (as in the woodland night-scene); varnish absent or disintegrated,
allowing considerable dirt to've collected on the paint surface. Two vandallistic punctures through the support, upper R; one, lower R. Paint insoluble in ordinary solvents. |
