RSW's Diary Comments

"Painted about 1936. Painted of the Halifax House from the front road. Sent down to N.Y. among several others, to Mrs. Moore, as choice for a wedding present, and given by her to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Phillips Kohl, 245 East 72nd St., N.Y. City"

Editor's Note:

Edwin Phillips Kohl not only has an obvious connection to Mrs. Ada Moore but Adaline Frelinghuysen because we have learned the Mr. Kohl, a lawyer, was once the general council for the American Sugar Company, Adaline's father's company. When it comes to the upper crust, the world gets very small. Edwin may also be a member of the same Kohl family that founded the Kohl's Department Stores, Inc., in Wisconsin were he was born.
