Woodward did not keep records of the pastels he called "chalk drawings."
From the name and the description below given by Ernest Bagg this scene is wooded area of
maple trees in their yellow transition of foliage. Maple trees are unique in that they change in all three fall
colors, yellow, orange, and red.

One last note, yellow is usually the first color of most trees and begins in late September, early October.
